Herbs
and Spices
A Continental
Cuisine in Indiranagar
After
listening to incessant ravings, I decided to hunt down Herbs and
Spices - a small restaurant tucked away in a quite residential
corner of Indranagar a little off CMH Road. The first time around
youll find it difficult to spot the place but once you have
been there youll be hooked. This is a place for those with
a discerning taste in food.
Although
the restaurant has been around for the last 6 years a lot of foodies
are still unaware of its existence. While their competitors are
located at more conspicuous locales, Herbs and Spices preferred
the quieter neighborhood. Let people find us is what
Manjit, the chief chef, stated. This is exactly what I discovered
the first time I visited the place, the other patrons at the restaurant
seemed familiar with the food and with the owners.
From
their Spartan decor to their furniture everything at Herbs and
Spices reads modest and utilitarian, however their food is far
from modest, for instance their grilled Beef spirals, Walnut Meringue
and a whole lot more reveals their intricate detailing in dishing
out indigenous continental food.
Herbs
and Spices is jointly owned and managed by Manjit Singh (a soft
spoken surd) and Pankaj Ramesh who also happen to be the two head
chefs of the restaurant. The meals comprising of pastas, steaks,
salads, quiches and pies are Manjits speciality, Pankaj
does the breads, croissants and exotic desserts like apple tarts,
chocolate roulades, pavlovas, and the very popular walnut meringue
and egg-less chocolate cakes.
The
restaurant has a black board for its menu. We have a new
menu everyday, so that our customers have something new to look
forward to each time. Although our salads and quiche are constants
and few of the pastas and steaks keep appearing on the menu time
and again, our menu has evolved as we have grown quipped
Manjit.
When
they started out their only competition was Sunnys, now
however there are many more specializing in continental cuisine.
Manjit doesnt seem perturbed by the fact, he believes they
are offering not just great food but also quality time. You are
unhurried and can take your time with your food and desserts,
a rare phenomenon in restaurants these days.
A
very unique thing I noticed about their desserts and breads section
was that none of it seemed to carry a label, Oh, we want
to talk to our customers and tell them a little something more
than just the name smiled Manjit. I loved the fact that
they would truly customize your food, so if nothing on the menu
appeals to you dont worry they would always cook up something
scrumptious for you. What impressed me the most was Manjit himself,
an interesting conversationalist who could tell you lots about
food and fine dining.

I wish I could give a higher rating than 'Excellent'. I simply
adore this place with its serene, homely atmosphere. What I love
most about this place is Manjit himself (his warmth) and the food
that he makes. He surely knows the way to a woman's heart.
The food simply melts in your mouth.
This is the only place where after savouring a soup I actually
closed my eyes unconsiously for a full five minutes b'coz I found
it so delicious. After tasting food at so many restaurants, I
realise the importance of having a restaurant like Herbs &
Spice. It is one of its kind and its chef/owner (Manjit) one of
his kind!
Ciao,
